What I do now: I write a blog called “Design for India” on thoughts and initiatives for the spread of design in all sectors of the economy.
With 125,000 visitors it has become a major platform for Indian design discourse. I am also on the Governing Council of the IICD, Jaipur but I live and work from Ahmedabad in India.
What I would have loved to redesign when I was 10: I would have loved to redesign my schools facilities and systems to motivate and teach hand skills and model making abilities in the student community. This programme and facility should bring in the concept of craftsmanship along with the concept of sportsmanship which are two sides of our non-academic ability that needs to be nurtured in society.
What I do: I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry. But, I formally left Chemistry in 1997. Started working on adult literacy in 1989 in slums of Mumbai. Co-founder of Pratham. Now President and CEO Pratham.
What I would have loved to redesign: I have no recollection of trying to change anything, except my own clothes, when I was 11. By 16 I was trying to change everything.
